Through the support of LAPA Uitgewers & ATKV, one of the EPO’s dreams realised when the media centre at Gustav Reichel Primary Die Kruis was taken into use on August 14, 2009. Nurturing a love for reading, Amelia Gildenhuys was actively involved as library teacher for grades 4 – 6. Since Amelia retired Lynn Anderson took over her duties and also helps with the grade 1 – 3 classes, and reads them stories whilst getting her training as assistant librarian.
Mariaan Potgieter from Cape Town hosted a reading workshop for our project during November 2018. It was called Doen en Leer. Pupils from nearby schools in Woodlands, Clarkson, Gustav Reichel Primary at Kruis Eersterivier and Kareedouw attended. We discovered that the need to improve pupils’ reading skills is enormous.
To start the project we are still in need of funds to purchase the reading program & books. Anybody that would like to make a donation towards this project can contact Ronelle Coetzee.
